The Farm Writers' Association of NSW Inc. complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cwlth), including the Australian Privacy Principles , with respect to the collection, use, disclosure, access, storage and security of personal information obtained as part of our operations.

Commitment to your privacy

Farm Writers' Association of NSW Inc. is committed to keeping your details private. We do not sell or swap your personal information.  We may disclose it to trusted service providers who assist us to operate our services, as described below.

Information collected

We collect personal information that you provide to us directly or through our service providers when you join as a member, register for an event, speak at an event, sponsor an event, interact with us, or subscribe to our communications. This may include:

  • name and contact details
  • employer and job title
  • billing and payment information
  • event registrations and attendance history
  • dietary or accessibility information you choose to provide
  • newsletter and email preferences and interactions
  • details relevant to speakers, sponsors and journalists in connection with our events and activities.

Website information

The Farm Writers' Association of NSW Inc. server logs information about the use of its website: www.nswfarmwriters.org.au . Whenever you use our website, or any other website, the computer on which the web pages are stored (the Web server) needs to know the network address of your computer so that it can send the requested web pages to your Internet browser.   • administering memberships, events and our activities, and operating and improving our website and services
  • registering you for events, managing attendance and facilitating participation, including communicating event updates
  • managing payments and issuing invoices or receipts
  • sending newsletters and updates where you have subscribed, with an option to unsubscribe at any time
  • ensuring the health, safety and accessibility of events, including using dietary or accessibility information that you choose to provide
  • responding to enquiries and handling complaints
  • complying with laws and managing risk and governance
  • for direct communications about Association activities, with an option to unsubscribe.

Sensitive information

Dietary and accessibility information may reveal health or disability information. We collect and use such information with your consent for event logistics and safety.

Disclosure to service providers and partners

We do not sell or swap your personal information. We may disclose personal information to third‑party service providers that help us operate our website, process payments, run registrations and send communications, and to venues and event partners where reasonably necessary to deliver the event. These providers may only use the information to provide services to us.

Some service providers may store or access personal information from overseas locations (for example, cloud hosting or email platforms).

Direct marketing

We may send you newsletters and updates that you have subscribed to or that relate to your membership. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in the email or by contacting us.

Security

We apply administrative, technical and physical safeguards intended to protect personal information.

Retention and deletion

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law.

Access and correction

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if you believe it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. To make a request, please contact us at secretary@nswfarmwriters.org.au

We will take reasonable steps to respond within a reasonable timeframe. If we refuse access or correction, we will give you written reasons, subject to any legal restrictions, and explain how you can make a complaint.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern or complaint, please contact us using the details below. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.
