About Us

NSW Farm Writers' purpose is to enhance connections and understanding between metropolitan and rural Australia. We do this by offering an independent platform for agribusiness networking, and by inspiring excellence in rural journalism, storytelling and advocacy, so that the agricultural industry in NSW and Australia prospers.

Our regular events provide a unique and respected platform for industry leaders, expert commentators, entrepreneurs and lobbyists to communicate with a wide range of audiences and influencers.

Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and pursuits, sharing a common dedication to promoting quality rural communication through thought leadership. Members include rural journalists from key national, state and regional print and electronic media as well as professionals from national and state rural industry organisations, governments, agribusiness companies, the agri-finance sector, communication consultancies and other service providers.

The organisation was established in 1966 as the Farm Writers and Broadcasters Society of NSW and became the NSW Farm Writers’ Association Inc in 1991. A history of the organisation written by Life Member Stuart Hutton in 2024 is available here.

Farm Writers is a foundation member of the Australian Council of Agricultural Journalists and plays a key role in fostering global rural communication via the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists.
