There are few journalists in Australia with as rich history in the media as Geraldine Doogue AO.
Beginning in newspapers in Western Australia, Geraldine has done it all, including stints as a foreign correspondent and television news anchor. As a familiar voice on ABC Radio, Geraldine has blazed a trail for women in journalism by telling the stories of Australians for more than 50 years.
Fresh from delivering the 2025 Ollie Lecture, Geraldine joins Farm Writers to discuss how journalism has changed and, just as importantly, how the decline in numbers of rural journalists and news sources shouldn’t result in a diminution of rural story telling.
What advice does Geraldine offer to young and emerging storytellers, and what lessons does she have for those engaged in sharing news and information about life and times in rural and regional Australia? Join us to find out.
Geraldine is the current co-host of the ABC podcast Global Roaming, bringing her lifetime of analysis and deep thinking to listeners weekly. She is a member of the Australian Media Hall of Fame and a multiple Walkley Award winning journalist.
We are delighted to be hosting Geraldine Doogue AO this September.
